Malik, who is undergoing treatment at Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital, said he is not in a condition to speak to anyone due to serious health issues. He said he has been on kidney dialysis for the past three days and is unable to respond to calls from well-wishers.

“Hello, friends. I have been receiving many calls from well-wishers, but I am unable to answer them. My condition is currently very bad, and I am not in a state to speak with anyone. I have been admitted to Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital since May 11 due to an infection. The situation is now very serious, and I have been undergoing kidney dialysis for the past three days,” Malik wrote on X.

The CBI chargesheet names Malik, his aides Virender Rana and Kanwar Singh Rana, as well as officials from Chenab Valley Power Projects Pvt Ltd and Patel Engineering Ltd. The case relates to alleged irregularities in awarding a Rs 2,200 crore civil works contract for the Kiru Hydro Electric Power Project in 2019.

Malik had earlier claimed he was offered a bribe of Rs 300 crore to clear files related to the project during his tenure as governor. He denied any wrongdoing and said the agency searched his residence instead of pursuing those he had accused of corruption.

As news of his health condition and the chargesheet spread, former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti shared her response on X: “Sorry to see Satya Pal Malik in such a critical condition undergoing dialysis following kidney failure. At the same time CBI has filed a chargesheet against him in connection with alleged corruption in the awarding of a hydropower project contract in J&K. Some may see this moment as a reckoning, a complex chapter in the legacy of a man who played a pivotal role in the disempowerment and fragmentation of Jammu and Kashmir.”
