In a statement posted on X, the authorities said the man was detained in the holy capital after allegedly harassing people and spreading fear, adding that security personnel dealt with the incident immediately.
The authorities also rejected claims circulating on social media about the incident, saying there was “no truth” to reports that a suicide bomber had been apprehended at the mosque.
No further details about the arrested man were provided in the statement.
Earlier reports circulating on social media had alleged that a suspected suicide bomber wearing an explosive vest approached the Kaaba before being detained by security personnel.
The Kaaba, a cube-shaped stone structure at the centre of the Grand Mosque, is Islam’s holiest sanctuary.
