SRINAGAR: The Saudi-led military coalition said on Friday that its air defences had intercepted and destroyed a ballistic missile launched by Yemen’s Houthi group towards the Saudi capital, Riyadh.
Coalition spokesperson Turki al-Maliki announced the interception in a statement posted on X, but did not disclose further details about the missile’s origin or intended target.
The incident comes amid escalating hostilities between the Houthis and the coalition, with attacks reported against Saudi airports and energy facilities.
Formally known as the Coalition to Support Legitimacy in Yemen, the alliance has been conducting military operations against the Houthi group in support of Yemen’s government since 2015.
The Houthis have controlled Yemen’s capital, Sanaa, and other parts of the country since 2014.
