The Health Department has not posted even a single doctor at the District Hospital (DH) Shopian, in the list made public a day before though the SDH is working with only six doctors.
The new appointments were made yesterday by the department of health, Kashmir.
“There are only six doctors posted in the DH Shopian and we had been assured on the highest level of sending more doctors but the list made public a day before disappointed us because not a single new doctor has been posted to DH Shopian,” the locals said.
Blaming government of ignoring Shopian on every developmental front especially on health care, the local trader’s federation warned of an agitation in the district.
“We met Health minister Taj Mohi-ul-din in the last week of May who accepted our genuine demands and director health too accepted the apathy of DH Shopian and assured us to appoint at least 20 doctors in DH Shopian,” Ghulam Nabi Turray, the traders federation president told Kashmir Life.
Pertinently, as per the new orders 6 doctors have been posted at Zainapora, 3 at Keller, 1 at Sedow, 1 at Barthipora and 1 at Keegam however, DH Shopian got no new doctors from the new list.
“Instead one Gynaecologist Dr Waseem has been transferred from the DH Shopian to DH Pulwama reducing more the medical staff of DH Shopian,” Turray said.
CMO Shopian, Dr Brehlat Singh while confirming the new appointments said, “I had submitted the list of requirements to the department but as per the list 17 doctors have been appointed in the whole district but not a single doctor has been sent to DH Shopian.”
CMO Shopian added, “If I attach some of new doctors to the district hospital that will be against the rules.”
Local sources said that hundreds of patients visit the district hospital on daily basis but have to suffer only because of the scarcity of the medical staff.
