SRINAGAR : Jammu and Kashmir is likely to witness scattered light rain and thunderstorms over the next two days, with fairly widespread light rain and thunderstorms expected across both Kashmir and Jammu divisions from September 15 to 17, according to the Meteorological Centre Srinagar.
The weather department, in its forecast issued at 11 am on Sunday, said scattered light rain or thunderstorms are expected over J&K during the next 24 hours. The outlook for the subsequent two days also indicates scattered to fairly widespread light rain and thunderstorms.
According to the seven-day forecast, scattered precipitation is likely across Kashmir and Jammu divisions on September 13 and 14, while fairly widespread activity is expected on September 15, 16 and 17. The weather is likely to return to scattered conditions on September 18 and 19.
The Meteorological Centre has forecast isolated thunderstorms and lightning accompanied by gusty winds reaching 40-50 kmph in both Kashmir and Jammu divisions on September 15, 16 and 17. No weather warning has been issued for September 13, 14, 18 or 19.
Meanwhile, maximum temperatures during the past 24 hours remained 1-3 degrees Celsius above normal at many places in Kashmir and Jammu divisions.
Srinagar recorded the highest maximum temperature in Kashmir division at 30.1 degrees Celsius, while Kathua recorded 35.4 degrees Celsius in Jammu division.
Night temperatures also remained above normal, with minimum temperatures 1-2 degrees Celsius above normal at many places in Kashmir and 1-3 degrees above normal across many parts of Jammu division. Gulmarg recorded the lowest minimum temperature in Kashmir at 9.6 degrees Celsius, while Bhaderwah recorded 14.1 degrees Celsius in Jammu division.
For Monday, the weather office has forecast partly cloudy skies with chances of light rain or thunderstorms in Srinagar and Jammu. Srinagar is expected to record a maximum temperature of around 30 degrees Celsius and a minimum of 16 degrees Celsius, while Jammu may see a maximum of 34 degrees Celsius and a minimum of 24 degrees Celsius.
Muzaffarabad is expected to remain partly cloudy with chances of light rain or thunderstorms, with temperatures likely to hover around 33 degrees Celsius during the day and 20 degrees Celsius at night. Mirpur is forecast to have partly cloudy skies, with a maximum of 35 degrees Celsius and a minimum of 27 degrees Celsius.
