SRINAGAR: The School Education Department said on Wednesday that it faced a shortage of teaching staff and that attaching and deploying staff to administrative departments was hampering students’ education. The department urged administrative units to limit the deployment and attachment of teaching and non‑teaching staff to ensure the effective operation of educational institutions across the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir.
Financial Commissioner (Additional Chief Secretary) Shantmanu said in a communique that teaching staff were being assigned to various offices by Deputy Commissioners without prior approval or reference to their home department. He said teachers had been appointed to educate students and should not be diverted from that role.
He added that assigning staff to non‑educational offices hampered students’ education, especially given the existing shortage. He urged all Deputy Commissioners in Jammu and Kashmir to limit such deployment to maintain stability and ensure the effective functioning of schools across the Union Territory.
He noted that requests for additional staff should be referred to the Directorate of School Education or the relevant administrative department. (KNO)
