SRINAGAR: The District Magistrate of Leh on Thursday ordered the closure of all educational institutions across the district for two days, beginning September 26, in view of the prevailing situation.
An order issued by DM Leh stated that government and private schools, anganwadi centres, colleges, coaching centres, and other educational institutions will remain closed till September 27.
The District Magistrate directed the Chief Education Officer, all college principals, and heads of institutions to ensure strict compliance with the order.
The decision comes a day after violent protests rocked Leh city over the statehood and 6th Schedule demand. At least four persons were killed and over 50 others injured, including more than 30 police and CRP personnel, in the clashes. The Home Ministry later accused Sonam Wangchuk of provoking the unrest through his speeches.
