Scores of people on Monday participated in the funeral prayers of slain former Hizbul Mujahideen militant at their ancestral village in Wagad hamlet of Aripal tehsil in Tral area of south Kashmir.

He was killed in a grenade blast near the police station in a south Kashmir’s Tral town of Pulwama district.

Reports said as the body of Mushtaq Chopan reached his native village, a pall of gloom descended and people irrespective of gender and age reached his house to pay homage to the former militant. The mourners chanted Pro-freedom, pro-Islam, and pro-militant slogans.

Woman sang eulogies “tera bayee, mera bayee, Mushtaq bayee Mushtaq bayee, wala myani shahedo, bochh ma lajee (come my martyr, you might be hungry).

Local sources said that a few militants appeared during the funeral who offered gun-salute to their former accomplice.

Adding that the villagers have decided to perform slain militant’s burial on Tuesday morning.
