The incident occurred near Sindh Resorts, where the vehicle was reportedly taken into the riverbed as part of an attempt to film a social media reel. The stunt, however, quickly went wrong as the Scorpio became immobilised in the strong current, putting its occupants at risk.

Soon after receiving information about the incident, the Station House Officer of Police Station Sonamarg, along with a team of police personnel, rushed to the spot and launched a rescue operation. Local residents also joined the effort.

The rescuers managed to evacuate all the occupants from the stranded vehicle. Fortunately, no injuries were reported, and the Scorpio was later recovered from the river.

Police identified the driver as Mohd Ibad Bhat, a resident of Nawakadal in Srinagar. Another occupant was identified as Naseer Ahmad Mugal, a resident of Mahore in Reasi.

Authorities said driving the vehicle into the river to film a social media video amounted to gross negligence, warning that such acts could endanger both those involved and the wider public.

A case has been registered in connection with the incident, while police are ascertaining the circumstances and any violations involved.

The episode drew a sharp reaction on social media, with one user commenting, “Reel foolish,” while another wrote, “The reel that nearly went too far.”
