SRINAGAR: Authorities conducted a demolition drive on Monday targeting “illegal occupants and encroachers” in the Batamaloo area of Srinagar.
An official from the Srinagar Development Authority (SDA) said that the drive was aimed at removing “illegal occupants/encroachers” from the general bus stand in Batamaloo.
According to the official, the action was taken against sheds and shops that were recently erected on government land within the general bus stand, violating regulations.
Furthermore, a piece of land that had been encroached upon at Rekh Chowk Batamaloo was also reclaimed, restoring the original state.
The official stated that the demolition drive was carried out under the supervision of Vice Chairman SDA Haris Handoo, following the directions, and with the assistance of police officials from the Police Control Room.
“We once again urge people to refrain from engaging in illegal or unauthorized construction within the jurisdictional areas of the Srinagar Development Authority,” the official warned.
Meanwhile, locals from the area alleged that the department conducted the drive without any prior notice. (KNO)
