SRINAGAR: Ahead of Republic Day, an exchange of fire took place between militants and security forces in the Billawar area of Kathua district on Saturday, officials said.
Officials said that alert troops detected suspicious movement in the early morning hours at TOB Moar, Panchayat Batodi, PS Billawar, in Kathua district. “When challenged, the suspicious individuals opened fire, prompting the troops to retaliate.”
The officials added that a search operation has been launched in the area.
