SRINAGAR: Security forces on Monday launched a search operation in the Sunderbani sector of Rajouri district after a suspected drone was sighted over forward villages along the Line of Control (LoC), officials said.
According to officials, the drone-like object fitted with a blinking light was noticed late Sunday night over the forward villages of Meenka and Beripattan. The suspected drone reportedly crossed briefly into the Indian side before returning across the Line of Control.
Following the sighting, security forces cordoned off the area and launched a search operation at first light to ascertain whether the drone had dropped any payload.
Officials said the operation focused on checking for any suspicious material, including narcotics, arms or other contraband that could have been air-dropped.
After conducting extensive searches in the area, security personnel did not recover any suspicious or objectionable material, officials said.
Security agencies, however, have maintained heightened vigilance along the border, and the area continues to remain under close surveillance to prevent any infiltration or cross-border smuggling attempts. [KNT]
