Search Resumes for Srinagar Man Who Jumped into River Jhelum

   

SRINAGAR: Joint search teams of the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) on Friday resumed operations to trace a 25-year-old man who allegedly jumped into the River Jhelum near Sempora in the Pantha Chowk area on Thursday.

Officials said the search operation is being carried out by the SDRF Quick Response Team (QRT) Pantha Chowk, an SDRF QRT from Battalion Headquarters Srinagar, and the NDRF.

The missing man has been identified as Sajad Ahmad Mir, son of Ghulam Mohammad, a resident of Balhama in Srinagar.

According to officials, Sajad Ahmad Mir allegedly jumped into the River Jhelum near Sempora, Pantha Chowk, on July 23. Despite search efforts launched on the day of the incident, he could not be traced.

The joint SDRF-NDRF teams resumed the operation on Friday to locate and retrieve the body, while further efforts were continuing when the last reports were received.
