SRINAGAR

Stating that religious awareness is imperative for political awareness, Chairman of Hurriyat Conference (M) Miriwaiz Umar Farooq on Saturday called upon the ulema and intellectuals to devote their attention to allay problems facing the Muslims including the “very painful” incidents of sectarian skirmishes in Budgam district.

“Spreading the message of Holy Quran is very important in contemporary time,” Mirwaiz has said while addressing people at Aalimasjid here in connection with function organized by ACC to pay tributes to Mirwaiz Kashmir Moulana Mohammad Yousuf Shah on his 64th death anniversary.

As per a statement he has said the recent sectarian clashes were very painful and “it’s the duty of Ulema and intellectuals to pay their attention to resolve the problems facing the Muslims.”

“Mirwaiz of Kashmir have always remained at forefront of Muslim unity and today also Mutahida Majlis Ulema provides a platform to keep the nation united and jointly resolve issues facing the nation.”

Meanwhile Mirwaiz has expressed shock and regret over the death of a lady Fatima Bano who had sustained injuries in the shelling fired by the forces during recent clashes in Budgam.

Mirwaiz has offered his heartfelt condolences and expressed sympathy with the bereaved family members.

Denouncing the police action on innocent civilians, he has expressed sympathy with the people who were injured in government action in Budgam. While offering special prayers for the departed soul, Mirwaiz has appealed people to maintain sectarian bonhomie.

Meanwhile, Hurriyat (M) spokesman while reacting to recent statement of National Conference leader Mustafa Kamal that Mirwaiz was “politically immature”, has said, “It is a known fact that NC dragged Kashmiris into the quagmire of slavery and unleashed limitless oppression on them.”

“In a bid to show its pro-India leanings NC leadership was still engaged in bloodshed of Kashmiris and recent incident at Gool is a fine example of that. It does not suit people to blame others when their own hands are smeared with the blood of innocent Kashmiris,” he said.

The spokesman has claimed that NC has lost its relevance and want to attract the public glare by issuing baseless and hollow statements.
