SRINAGAR

Day after the deadly Pampore attack that left eight CRPF men dead and many others injured, the security cover has been intensified in and around Srinagar city.

The Jammu and Kashmir Police also intensified vigil at tourist destinations to ensure that the tourist flow remains unaffected.

Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kashmir Zone, Javaid Mujtaba Gilani told KNS that due to less amount of snowfall, the infiltration bids increased this year.

He said that though intelligence inputs suggest that “nearly 38 militants have succeeded to cross over but it seems that the number is a bit higher”.

IGP, however, said that police and forces are alert to deal with the situation.

Gilani further said that there has been a record in flow of tourists this season and police was very much alert to foil any attempt aiming to derail economic and other activities in the Valley.

Pertinently, nine militants, all “foreigners” were killed from past three days in three different encounters across the Valley.

The encounters raged between forces and militants in three different areas including Drugmulla Kupwara, Lolab and Pampore.

“Almost all militants killed from past three days were affiliated to Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) a militant outfit,” an official said.

Nonetheless, eight CRPF personnel were also killed while 20 sustained injuries in Pampore attack that took place on Saturday evening.
