Tehreek-e-Hurriyat Chairman Mohammad Ashraf Sehrai has expressed serious concern over the deteriorating health condition of senior Tehreek-e-Hurriyat leader Peer Saifullah.

The spokesman said that in absence of proper medical care his health condition is worsening with every passing day, “It is the moral and legal responsibility of the administration to provide proper treatment to cancer patient Peer Saifullah and to release him immediately,” he said.

He said a person cannot be held in continued detention over political dissent. So we reiterate over the demand to release of all Kashmiri political prisoners, especially those who are ill and those who have been arrested without charges or on spurious charges of “sedition” — often simply for expressing political dissent.

Despite clear-cut directions from the Supreme Court that prisoners be lodged to the jails closer to their homes, dozens of Kashmiri prisoners were shifted outside the state and are lodged in various parts of India where they are facing extreme “suppression” in terms of the absence of all the basic facilities guaranteed by the jail manuals.
