Hurriyat Conference (G) has appealed human rights organizations to take notice on humanitarian grounds of the seized house property of the pro-freedom leader and People’s League chief Ghulam Mohammad Khan Sopori and use their influence in releasing the same.

In a statement to KNS Hurriyat (G) spokesman said, “House of Sopori sahib was sealed on 30 June 2012 by the government and since then he and his family is living a miserable life. Sopori sahib is an active political worker in the freedom struggle of Kashmir from last 40 years and during this period, he has remained in different jails for years together. He has never shown any kind of weakness and flexibility in his stand.”

“Sopori sahib had constructed a residential house on a 5 malara plot of land at Chanapora area and government seized it some two and a half years ago. He had, however, filed a writ in the state High Court but justice is yet to be done with him. The said house was also affected by the recent flood water and there are possibilities of its further damage and in this regard he had sought permission from the court for its repair but he has not received any instructions in this regard,” he said.

The Hurriyat (G) sought attention of the High Court towards this issue and said that a decision should be given in this regard so that the Sopori can have some kind of respite.
