SRINAGAR: Senior Congress leader and former Union Minister P Namgyal passed away. He breathed his last at his residence in Leh district of Ladakh division, party sources said. Namgyal was 87.

Reports said that he was tested positive for Covid-19. The district administration has advised all the contacts with the family to remain in quarantine without exemptions.

According to party sources, he was elected as Member of Parliament from Ladakh three-times.

P Namgyal remained Union minister of State Surface Transport and Parliamentary Affairs from Feb. 1988-July 1989 and Union Minister of State, Chemical and Petrochemical and  Parliamentary Affairs July 1989-Dec. 1989.

Meanwhile, All India Congress Committee (AICC) expressed profound grief over the passing away of former Union Minister and Party Veteran P. Namgyal and conveyed deepest condolences to the bereaved family

In a statement, AICC President Sonia Gandhi has expressed anguish over the demise of Party Veteran P. Namgyal and conveyed deepest condolences to family, relatives and friends of the departed soul.

AICC President expressed solidarity with the bereaved family.

Meanwhile, Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha Gulam Nabi Azad, General Secretary AICC and other senior leaders condoled the demise of Former Union Minister & Senior Party Colleague P. Namgyal.

They described the deceased as a man of commitment, who always remained committed to the cause of strengthening people of Ladakh, the statement said.

The Leaders conveyed deepest condolences to the bereaved family, expressed solidarity with them and prayed for eternal peace to the departed soul, said the statement.
