Police on Monday night raided the residence of a senior Urdu daily editor in Srinagar and arrested him around 11: 30 at night.

According to family sources, a police party from police station Shaheed Gunj arrived at the residence of senior Urdu daily editor Ghulam Jeelani Qadri and took him to the police station.  Later, the family came to know that Qadri has been arrested in a case registered against him in 1992. “As the editor has some health issues, his family later drove to the police station to give him some medicines,” the family source said.

Pertinently, Aafaq-an Urdu daily newspaper is one of the oldest newspaper of Kashmir.

Reports also suggest that the CJM court has issued a warrant against him and the case FIR number 59 of 1990 has been registered under the Criminal Law Amendment Act.

Others who are accused in the case include Shakeek Aijaz Khan, Ghulam Nabi Shaida and Ashiq Kashmiri.
