Independent legislator form Langate, Kupwara, Engineer Rashid has said that the separatists in Kashmir have been “baying for my blood.”

In an interview to a Delhi-based daily, Rashid has said that the separatist leaders abhorred him for “embracing” the Indian Constitution.

“The separatists are baying for my blood and the rightwing extremists are watching how Engineer will be lynched in public,” Rashid told the daily a day after being smeared with ink by Hindutva activists in Press Club in New Delhi for hosting a beef party.

The legislator also said that he “loves” the constitution of India but the government of India has not recognized it.

“The Prime Minister Narendra Modi led NDA has failed to recognize my love for the Indian Constitution and has pushed Kashmiri people against the wall,” he has said.

He also said that Indian news channels had reduced him to a separatist masquerading as an MLA, while in Kashmir, the separatist leaders abhorred him for “embracing” the Indian Constitution.

“I think it’s fair to say I’m the most misunderstood MLA of this country. People [Indian TV anchors] call me a traitor, a separatist for my views. But what I really talk about is realism.”

The legislator has recently dominated the media on the issue of beef ban controversy by hosting a ‘beef party’ in MLA hostel here, roughing by BJP legislators in Assembly and blackening of his face by ink attack in New Delhi.
