Scores of youth on Monday held protests demanding that they be re-engaged and regularised in government service.

One of the protesting youths told Kashmir Life that around 8000 educated youths were engaged by government as temporary teachers in 2014-14 session.

“We worked for one year under government order 482 of 2014,” he said, “now we want government to regularise our services.”

The protesting youths demanded that they be regularised with 61000 casual and contractual employees of state.

“We were assured by Finance Ministry officials last year that our case will be taken up with 61000 contractual and casual employees,” he said, “now, the government has backtracked as our case file has been taken out from policy for 61000 temporary employees.”

Last year, the protestors said, Directorate of School Education Kashmir did a census of such youths. “Now, our total number is 3900.”

Notable to mention here, J&K has 61000 temporary employees who have rendered over 7 years of service. The PDP-BJP government assured such employees that their services will be regularised through procedure and a policy in this regard is under process with Ministry of Finance.

However, the youths who appeared in Press Colony on Monday said that they have worked as academic arrangement for one session.

“Don’t waste our degrees,” the protesting youth chanted. One of the protestors who Kashmir Life talked to said, “I have three PG degrees; I have done Master’s Degree in English, Urdu and Education.” “I have also completed MEd through distance mode at KU.”
