In a tragic road accident on Gulabgard-Ishtyari road in Kishtwar’s Padder belt, at least seven people are feared dead. Travelling in a Scorpio (JK02BL-2914), they met an accident near Thumb village some 150 kms from Kishtwar.

SSP Kishtwar Sandeep Kumar Wazir confirmed that accident had taken place, but refused to comment on the death tool. He said that the area is remote and lacks communication.

After the police got information about the accident, a police party lead by Dy SP Atholi Pardeep Kumar Sen had rush towards the spot but had not reached there yet. He said that the locals informed the police that seven persons were on board the vehicle including the local driver hailing from Ongaie village of the Padder. He said that another police party from Kishtwar is also on its way to Padder to assist and expedite the rescue operation.

Locals informed that the area where the accident took place has more than 800 meter deep gorge. They said no rescue operation is possible during the night hours. Besides, the road is in shambles. Under construction for last many years, the road is termed to be major factor for the accident.

Unofficial sources identified the person on board as Manoj Kumar son of Mohan Lal resident of Ongaie (driver), Narinder Kumar son of Gyan Chand, Sunil Kumar son of Sahab Singh, both residents of Tham, Aman Singh son of Devan Chand, Rohit Singh Son of Roop Singh, Rangail Singh  son of Bodh Raj  – all residents of Swash, and Dharminder Singh son of Kartar Singh resident of Bastaun.
