SRINAGAR: Seven people were killed and 21 injured in Kyiv after Russia launched a massive overnight barrage of missiles and drones targeting Ukraine’s energy infrastructure, coinciding with the start of US-brokered peace talks in Abu Dhabi, Al Jazeera reported.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy as per local media said Russia fired 22 missiles — including four hypersonic Kinzhal ballistic missiles — along with more than 460 Shahed-type drones in one of the most extensive coordinated assaults in months. The strikes heavily targeted Kyiv and neighbouring regions, damaging power facilities and residential areas.
Romania reported yet another breach of its airspace during the attack, prompting German and Romanian NATO jets to scramble. Defence Minister Ionut Mosteanu said the pilots nearly shot down the intruding drone but held back due to risks posed by falling debris.
It is the 13th time Romania has reported an airspace violation since Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022, reinforcing concerns over escalating regional security threats as the conflict deepens.
