SRINAGAR: At least seven shops were gutted in a midnight blaze at Iqbal market in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district.

President Kupwara Traders federation Showkat Ahmad Masoodi told Kashmir Life that seven shops were gutted in the blaze.

Locals and officials from Fire and Emergency Services brought the fire into control, but couldn’t save the shops which were gutted in the fire that erupted around 11:00 pm in Iqbal market Kupwara, he said.

“Fire flames damaged the shops reducing the items lying inside to ashes,” he added.

He asked the district administration to immediately assess the damages and disburse the ex-gratia relief to the fire victims.

A police official said that the cause of the fire was yet to be ascertained.
