SRINAGAR: A seven-year-old boy drowned in the Sukhnag stream in the Wachoo Gund area of Arizal in central Kashmir’s Budgam district on Wednesday evening, officials said.
The deceased was identified as Muheed, son of Zahoor Ahmad Lone.
According to local reports, the child allegedly slipped into the Sukhnag stream and disappeared in the waters, triggering panic in the area.
Locals immediately launched efforts to retrieve the boy and later pulled him out of the stream in an unconscious condition.
The incident drew attention and concern as people rushed to the spot following reports of the drowning. Muheed was shifted to Panzoo Hospital for medical examination and necessary formalities.
Doctors at the hospital declared him brought dead, officials said. Meanwhile, a police team from Police Station Watrihal reached the spot and initiated legal proceedings.
Police have registered a case and started investigation into the incident. [KNT]
