Seven-Year-Old Girl Critical After Hit-and-Run in Srinagar

   
SRINAGAR: A 7-year-old girl from Zalpora in Budgam was critically injured after being hit by an unknown motorcycle at Lawaypora area of Srinagar outskirts on Friday.
The girl, identified as Zara, daughter of Mudasir Hussain Dar, was immediately shifted to JVC Hospital in Bemina, where doctors confirmed that she has suffered severe internal injuries. Her condition remains critical and she is undergoing intensive medical care.
Family members said the child was attempting to cross the road when a speeding motorcycle approached from the opposite direction and struck her without slowing down. According to them, the impact threw the girl several feet away, leaving her unconscious on the road.
Eyewitnesses told the family that the motorcyclist did not stop after the collision and fled towards the Srinagar outskirts. Locals assembled at the spot and assisted in shifting the injured child to the hospital. The family has appealed for strict action against the rider involved in the incident.
Police have taken cognizance of the matter and initiated efforts to identify the motorcycle and its rider. Officers said they are examining available CCTV footage from the area and collecting statements from locals to trace the vehicle. Police officials added that a case has been registered and further investigation is underway to ascertain the circumstances that led to the accident. [KNT]
