SRINAGAR: Several persons sustained injuries, some of them serious, in a road accident that took place at Barsoo, Awantipora, on the Srinagar–Anantnag highway (NH-44) on Saturday.
According to reports, the accident occurred when a Taveera vehicle (registration number JK01Q-5159) collided head-on with a fruit-laden truck on the busy highway. The impact was severe, leaving the Taveera badly damaged and resulting in multiple injuries to its occupants. The truck overturned due to the collision.
Local residents and passers-by immediately rushed to the spot and alerted the authorities. Police and rescue teams reached the site shortly after the incident and launched rescue operations to evacuate the injured passengers trapped in the vehicle. The injured were shifted to nearby hospitals for treatment. While some victims received minor injuries, a few are reported to be in critical condition and are undergoing specialised medical care.
The accident caused temporary disruption of traffic on the highway, leading to inconvenience for commuters. Police have registered a case and initiated an investigation to determine the exact cause of the accident. Preliminary reports suggest that overspeeding or loss of control may have contributed to the mishap. (KNT)
