Many youth were injured on Thursday afternoon when clashes broke out between the police and youth in Shumnag village of north Kashmir’s Kupwara district.

According to the residents of Shumnag village, forces vehicles were passing through the village, when somebody allegedly threw a stone at the vehicle.

Villagers alleged that the forces barged into homes and vandalized property.

Local sources said that during the clashes forces retaliated with teargas smoke shells resulting in injuries of 10 local youth, in which one of them has been referred to Srinagar for the specialised treatment.

“They even vandalised our residential houses, creating panic in the whole village,” said a local wishing anonymity.

When contacted Station House Officer, Trehgam he said, “I’m on spot to ascertain the situation now, I cannot give you the immediate details.”

He added that during the clashes a policeman has also sustained injuries.
