SRINAGAR: Three residential houses, an Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) centre, and two cowsheds were destroyed in a fire in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kupwara district, officials said.
A fire-fighter, Irfan Ahmad Dar, sustained injuries during the operation and was immediately taken to a nearby medical facility for treatment, according to Fire and Emergency officials.
“The fire broke out during the intervening night of Thursday and Friday in a residential house in Marsari village, located in the Chokibal area. It spread to adjacent structures, damaging three two-storey houses, an ICDS centre, and two cowsheds,” they said.
Fire tenders from Kralpora, Tangdhar, and Kupwara were deployed promptly to extinguish the flames. Eyewitnesses stated that the Army, in collaboration with locals, assisted in evacuating residents and supported the civil administration in containing the fire.
Officials suspect the fire was caused by an electrical short circuit.
The affected families have appealed for prompt compensation to address their losses.
