SRINAGAR: Shab-e-Baraat (Night of Absolution) was observed across the Kashmir valley with devotees thronging the major mosques and shrines of the valley on Friday to observe the auspicious night of  fortune and forgiveness.

In Kashmir, the largest congregation was held at Dargah Hazratbal shrine Srinagar were thousands of men and women prayed seeking forgiveness for their sins.

Shab-e-Baraat is observed by Muslims on the inrtervening night of 14th and 15th Shaban-the eighth month of the Islamic calendar which falls ahead of the month of Ramadan.

With the fall of evening, every corner of the valley especially the religious places were lit up with candles and mosques and shrines were reverberating with Quran recitations and night long prayers.

The major congregrational prayers were offered at Hazratbal shrine, Chrar-e-Sharif, Dastgir Saheb’s shrine at Khanyar, Khankahi-e-Maula and Sarai Payeen.

People visited graveyards for Fateh-Khani and prayed for the eternal peace of the departed souls.
