Hurriyat (M) rebel and Chairman Freedom Party Shabir Shah Wednesday was stopped by Police at Banihal while heading towards Gool Ramban to express solidarity with families of killed civilians and injured.

“The Police prevented the party Chairman, Shabir Shah along with Islamic Political Party Chairman Muhammad Yusuf Naqash from offering their condolences to Gool victims,” a party statement issued to press read.

The Party spokesperson while condemning the arrest of Shabir Shah said that the chairman was put under house arrest for six days before he left for Gool.

“Shah sahib was put under house arrest for six days and it is only today that he decided to offer his condolences with the bereaved families but government is preventing us from even expressing condolences to the families of killed civilians and visiting injured,” the spokesman said.

He alleged that by preventing “straightforward and truthful” to visit Ramban, government is repeating its policy of “political vengeance”.

The party spokesperson has expressed gratitude to the people of Doda, Kishtwar, Bhaderwah, Poonch, Rajouri, Udhampur and Jammu over protesting against the desecration of Holy Qur’an despite strong restrictions by authorities. “Jammu and Kashmir is a single body and it is impossible that people of Kashmir will remain mute when their brothers in Jammu are suppressed,” the spokesman added.
