Second tube of Shalteng-HMT Chowk of Srinagar-Baramulla 4-lanning road project will be thrown open for traffic from August 20 while remaining portion from HMT Chowk to Narbal will be completed by November ending this year.

“This assurance was given by the Chief Engineer, BEACON, Brdg, Asish Kumar Das to the Minister for R&B, GP&F, Syed Mohammad Altaf Bukhari while inspecting ongoing work of the project,” an official spokesperson said Saturday evening.

The Minister asked Chief Engineer to expedite work on the project in order to complete this important highway early. He said construction and widening of roads have become imperative to overcome on the traffic jamming problem in the State. He said this road link is important as it connects two major districts Baramulla, Kupwara with capital city.

It is mentioned here that this work has been allotted to a local constructing company M/s Jhelum Construction Co last month. The local traders and shopkeepers while demanding early completion of this road link also expressed satisfaction over the pace of work going on for past one month. The MD of the Co said that all out efforts are being made to complete this 7.50 km road strip by ending November this year.

Appreciating the efforts of the Chief Engineer BEACON and executing agency, the Minister said that by their coordination the timely completion of the project is evident now.
