SRINAGAR

An umbrella organization of medicos, paramedics, traders and lawyers Sunday evening protested in Srinagar’s press enclave demanding that the culprits in  spurious drug scam should be punished.

A coordination committee, named Forum Against Spurious Drugs (FASD), of Medical Employees Joint Action Forum (MEJAF), Kashmir Economic Alliance, Kashmir High Court Bar Association, and J&K RTI Movement said that the people involved in the spurious drug scam in which list of 24 was published should be punished.

The forum members while shouting slogans against senior congress leader and former health minister  Sham Lal Sharma (who is incumbent Minister for PHE and Irrigation) demanded his immediate resignation from ministry so that fair probe is conducted.

“Sham Lal should resign on moral grounds,” they said.

They appealed people to wake up from ‘slumber’ and demand stern punishment for the accused. They reteriated that the agitation would be carried to every district of the state so that people know the reality.

“Everyone of us is victim as medicines are taken by everybody, irrespective of age group,” said Dr Ghulam Rasool of J&K RTI Movement

The group further said that the people against whom FIR has been lodged should be put behind the bars immediately. “Sham and Shame, both are same read the placard of one of the protester.”

According to protesters police earlier arrested Dr Nisar-ul-Hasan, president DAK and also chairman of the forum. They demanded his immediate release.

Pertinently the drug scam surfaced few months ago  after antibiotic ‘Maximizin-625’ and 10 other drugs supplied to government hospitals proved spurious.
