SRINAGAR: Kashmir’s Grand Mufti Nasir-ul-Islam Tuesday said that Eid-ul-Fitr would be celebrated across Jammu and Kashmir tomorrow – Wednesday – as witnesses have been on record on the sighting of the Shawaal moon. Muslims across the world follow the lunar calendar and the sighting of the Shawwal crescent marks the conclusion of the month of fasting and Eid.
Reports of sightings of the Shawwal moon have been confirmed in various locations, indicating that Eid will be celebrated tomorrow, he said.
The Mufti extends felicitations to the people of Jammu and Kashmir, wishing for peace and prosperity throughout the region on this auspicious occasion.
“I felicitate the people of J&K on the auspicious occasion of Eid and pray to Almighty Allah that this auspicious occasion be the harbinger of peace and prosperity for the entire J&K”, the top cleric said.
Earlier, after the Magrib prayers, he had conveyed that since there are reports of crescent sights in Chenab Valley and Kargil, people must delay their Tarvih prayers. Kargil has already announced that they have sighted the moon and they will be celebrating Eid on Wednesday. Ladakh has a clear sky for most of the year.
