SRINAGAR: Pakistan’s new Prime Minister, Shehbaz Sharif is reported to have written a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi suggesting a “meaningful engagement” between two neighbours.

Sharif’s letter, reports said was in response to a congratulatory letter sent by Modi conveying that India desired constructive ties with Pakistan.

“Sharif in his letter also called for the resolution of issues including Jammu and Kashmir,” the reports said. “Sharif said that Islamabad was in favour of peaceful and cooperative ties with India.”

Earlier the two leaders had communicated publicly using the micro-blogging website, Twitter.

Relations between India and Pakistan are at a low after 2019 when India launched aerial strikes on Balakote. These deteriorated further after Article 370 was read down in August.
