Police on Wednesday detained several Shiite mourners in Srinagar to prevent them from taking out a Muharram procession.
Reports said that dozens of mourners took out a march and tried to proceed towards city center Lalchowk.
However, they said that police swung into action and arrested them.

Authorities have already imposed strict restrictions on the movement of people in parts of Srinagar to prevent Muharram processions, which remain banned here since the insurgency broke out in 1989.
The restrictions have led to massive traffic jams in the city forcing the police to issue a traffic advisory.
