Locals from Shivpora Srinagar Wednesday accused incumbent member parliament and senior People’s Democratic Party leader Tariq Hameed Karra of using police to grab custodian land that is in their possession from past three four decades.
The locals who appeared in press enclave Srinagar also accused Karra of illegally occupying more than a hundred kanals of Evacuee property land of the Custodian Department worth a hundred crores at current market prices at Shivpora.
Abdul Rasheed Wani, son of Ghulam Rasool Wani, possessing original documents of custodian department that show him the true proprietor of the land measuring 33 kanal 4 marlas arrived here and alleged Karra has been pressuring police station Ram Munshi Bagh to evacuate us from the said land.
“This land is in our possession and we have been growing vegetables from past few decades. Now police have been directing us to stop cultivating vegetation on this land. We have lost our source of income and we appeal Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti to look into the matter,” Wani told CNS.
“When we approached Police Station RM Bagh, the Station House Officer informed that they have been acting on the application filed by Tariq Hameed Karra. We don’t know what Karra has written in the application, however, the fact is that as per Custodian records; we are the real owners of the land. How can he abuse his position like this? Is there nobody from the government or from his party who could question him,” Wani said.
Wani family stated that even after producing original documents, the police have been calling us to the police station where, “we are being made to wait from morning to evening.”
“Karra is using police and is terrorizing the locals in Shivpora through his muscle-men and exerting undue influence on the authorities. In past also, he exerted pressure on Custodian Department officials to put into abeyance an order that proved Karra’s claim to the land as hollow. The Custodian Department had legally challenged Tariq Karra’s occupation of a huge tract of Custodian Land at Shivpora which Karra claims belongs to his ancestors. However, under the said norms of safeguarding and protecting Custodian Property, he is neither a proclaimed manager of the said Evacuee Property, nor a proven or adjudged direct legal heir,” they said and demanded an elaborate investigation into ‘offences of undue coercive measures’ and ‘criminal intimidation against Tariq Karra.
Tariq Hameed Karra was not available for comments, however, a police official from RM Bagh Police Station said that they have been enquiring the matter after Tariq Karra filed a case of land grab. “We have been looking into custodian and revenue records and everything will become clear within days,” he said and termed the allegations baseless that police have been harassing locals.
