Senior Congress leader P Chidambaram said it was “shocking and shameful” that former IAS officer Shah Faesal was booked under the Public Safety Act (PSA).

In a series of tweets, Chidambaram slammed the government of “misusing” the PSA in Jammu and Kashmir and called every citizen to join the ‘Save the Constitution’ movement.

Taking to social networking site Twitter, P Chidambaram wrote: “The misuse of the Public Safety Act in Jammu & Kashmir continues, former IAS officer Faesal detained under thar Act. Shocking and shameful. Let’s see what bizarre reasons are contained in the order of detention.”

Chidambaram said the detentions under PSA in Kashmir are “challenges” to Articles 19 and 21 of the consitution.

“Every Article of Part III of the Constitution is under threat. CAA is a challenge to Articles 14 and 15. The detentions under PSA in Kashmir are challenges to Articles 19 and 21,” Chidambaram wrote on Twitter.

Jammu and Kashmir Peoples’ Movement Chairman Dr Shah Faesal, who has been under detention after scrapping of Jammu and Kashmir’s special status, was booked under the PSA on Friday night.

Shah Faesal joined the list of leaders booked under the PSA in Jammu and Kashmir. Farooq Abdullah, Omar Abdullah, Mehbooba Mufti, Ali Mohammad Sagar, Sartaj Madani, Hilal Lone and Naeem Akhtar have also been booked under PSA recently.
