SRINAGAR: Minimum temperatures were recorded across Jammu, Kashmir, and Ladakh today, reflecting a severe cold wave gripping the region.
In the Kashmir Valley, Shopian experienced the lowest temperature at -8.1°C, followed by Anantnag at -6.6°C and Kulgam at -5.8°C. Srinagar and Gulmarg both recorded -4.6°C, while Sonamarg dropped to -7.0°C, Kashmir weather reported.
The Jammu region saw comparatively milder conditions, with Jammu city recording 6.5°C, while Ramban was the warmest at 8.1°C. In Ladakh, Kargil recorded -8.8°C, while Leh stood at -7.4°C.
Dr Mukhtar Ahmed, Director of the Meteorological Department, has warned of harsher weather in the coming days, as temperatures are expected to drop further after 23 December, signalling an intensified cold wave coinciding with the onset of Chilai Kalan.
