SRINAGAR: One more army personnel was injured in an ongoing encounter in south Kashmir’s Shopian district, taking the toll of injured personnel to three.

Quoting officials news agency KNO reported that three army personnel have received injuries in an encounter at the Nowgam Check area of the district.

They said that a joint team of Police, Army and CRPF launched a Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) on specific information about the presence of militants in Nowgam area of Shopian.

“As the joint team of forces approached towards the suspected spot, the hiding militants fired upon them, which was retaliated, triggering a gunfight,” he said.

Meanwhile, officials said high-beam lights have been installed in the area and the cordon layers have been further tightened to ensure that militants don’t flee. “It seems that operation may last till tomorrow morning as it is completely dark,” they said.
