As per a police spokesperson, militants hiding fired upon the search party and an encounter broke out in Shopian. In this encounter Abass Reshi alias Abid Bhai son of Bashir Ahmad Reshi resident of Ali-Shahpora, Zainapora District Commander of LeT outfit was killed.
Meanwhile AG Mir, IPS, Inspector General of Police, Kashmir Zone has termed the killing of the District Commander, Abass Reshi as a major success for Police and other government forces.
“Abass Reshi was involved in number of militancy related incidents including hurling of grenade on Army and firing on Police Station Zainapora. Abass was also involved in the killing of a released militant Shabir Ahmad Mir in September this year,” reads an official statement.
However one civilian Ghulam Ahmad Parry was also injured in the incident who was hospitalized and is out of danger now.
