Shopian Freezes at –6.4°C as Cold Wave Grips Kashmir

   

SRINAGAR: The Kashmir Valley experienced an intense cold wave overnight, with minimum temperatures dropping sharply across the region, according to official meteorological data issued on Saturday.

Shopian recorded the lowest temperature at –6.4°C, marking the coldest night of the season so far. Pulwama and Pampore followed with –5.2°C, while Baramulla registered –5.1°C and Anantnag –4.9°C.

Srinagar Airport reported a minimum of –4.8°C, with Pahalgam at –4.4°C and Qazigund at –4.2°C. Srinagar city and Budgam both settled at –4.1°C.

Elsewhere, Awantipora recorded –3.8°C, Kupwara –3.5°C, and Bandipora –3.4°C. Ganderbal registered –3.1°C, followed by Sonamarg at –3.0°C and Gulmarg at –2.6°C.

Kulgam experienced milder conditions at –1.2°C, while Kokernag remained the warmest location in the Valley at –0.2°C.

Meteorological authorities said the cold wave is likely to continue over the coming days, with little relief expected as temperatures remain well below freezing across most districts.
