SRINAGAR: A newly recruited militant of The Resistance Front (TRF) was killed in an encounter in the Kathohalan area of South Kashmir’s Shopian district on Thursday, officials said.

A senior police officer said that a joint team of Police, Army, and CRPF launched a cordon and search operation on specific information about the presence of militants in the Kathohalan area. “As the joint team of forces approached the suspected spot, the militant fired upon them, which was retaliated, triggering an encounter.”

“During the exchange of fire, a militant who had joined TRF was killed. He has been identified as Mysar Ahmad Dar from Vishro Shopian,” he said.

Kashmir police zone said in a post on ‘X’ wrote: “One (01) #terrorist affiliated with proscribed #terror outfit TRF neutralised. Incriminating materials including arms & ammunition recovered. Search going on. Further details shall follow.”

“In the ensuing encounter, 01 local terrorist identified as Maiser Ahamd Dar @Adil son of Ghulam Nabi Dar resident of Vishroo Payeen, linked with proscribed terror outfit TRF was killed and his body was retrieved from the site of encounter,” it added.

The security forces recovered incriminating materials, arms and ammunition from the site of the encounter. “All the recovered materials have been taken into case records for further investigation,” a spokesperson said in a statement.

The statement further reads, “In this regard, a case under relevant sections of law has been registered and further investigation is in progress. People are requested to cooperate with Police till the area at encounter site is completely sanitized and cleared of all the explosive materials.” (KNO)
