Authorities on Wednesday suspended 3G and 4G mobile internet services in the Kashmir Valley following the death of a student at the hands of forces in Shopian district.
The mobile internet services which had been restored during the last four days after remaining suspended for over a fortnight, were again suspended after 22-year-old Aadil Farooq Magrey died in the force’s firing in Ganawpora village last evening.
Forces had surrounded a house after specific intelligence input that two militants were hiding in the village on Tuesday evening.
As soon as the villagers heard the gunshots, they came out pelting stones at the forces personnel to breach the cordon and help hiding militants escape.
The police said tear gas was used to disperse the protesters.
Doctors at the Shopian District Hospital where Magrey was taken said he had a bullet injury and had succumbed on the way to hospital.
Many other protesters were also injured in the clashes.
Authorities have shut down schools and colleges in Shopian on Wednesday to prevent student protests.
