To protest the killing of a young student in Shopian last evening, the students of Government Degree College Handwara on Wednesday clashed with forces.
Adil Farooq Magray, a college student, was hit by a bullet in his chest after forces opened fire to disperse protesters who pelted stones on forces during cordon and search operation in Ganawpora village of Shopian district.
Witnesses said that hundreds of students of the college took to streets and staged massive protests against the killing of Adil Farooq.
The protesting students, who were raising pro-freedom and anti-government slogans, pelted stones on the forces who responded by firing tear smoke shells.
The movement of traffic was affected due to clashes in the area, they said.
