Hundreds of men, women and children succeeded in reaching Gagren, for a peaceful sit in. The protesters are sitting peacefully outside the forces camp where four persons were killed on Saturday by the hands of CRPF.

People from Memender, Gagren and other adjacent areas in Shopian, on Sunday silently marched up to the CRPF camp Gagren.

Four persons were killed in CRPF firing outside the same camp yesterday.

The protesters including men, women and children were sitting peacefully outside the CRPF camp when the reports last came in.

Police sources told KL that the protesting people are from the localities situated in the outskirts of the town and were peaceful.

They added that Shopian town is under curfew and the situation was peaceful.

Sources however informed KL that people came out of their homes in Baba Mohala area defying curfew and started anti-India sloganeering. Tawseef Ahmad Bhat of the same Baba Mohala was among the killed in CRPF firing on Saturday.

Police and CRPF personnel deployed heavily used tear smoke shells and aerial firing to disperse the porters. Violent clashes in Baba Mohala and adjacent areas were on when the reports last came in.

Three of the deceased have been identified as Tawseef Ahmad Bhat, 18, son of Gulam Muhammad Bhat, resident of Baba Mohallah Shopian, Muhammad Yousuf resident of Durpora, Zainpora (a labourer) and Tariq Ahmad Mir son of Ghulam Nabi Mir, a resident of Okay, Kulgam.
