SRINAGAR: In yet another incident during the ongoing walnut harvesting season, a man died after falling from a walnut tree in Heerpora area of Shopian on Saturday. This is the second such death reported in the district within the past two days.
The deceased has been identified as Mohd Hussain Baniya, a resident of Check e Ramnagri in Shopian. He was rushed to District Hospital Shopian after falling from the tree, but doctors declared him brought dead.
Earlier, another man had lost his life in a similar mishap in the district, raising concern over the increasing number of such accidents during walnut collection. Locals said climbing tall trees without safety gear continues to put lives at grave risk every season.
Police have taken cognizance of the incident. [KNT]
