Shopian Shuts Against Killing of Two Hizbul Militants

Life is crippled in South Kashmir district of Shopian where two Hizbul Mujahideen died in a fierce encounter on Thursday evening.

Shops and business establishments are closed and traffic is off the roads in Shopian town and adjoining areas. Work in government offices is also affected due to strike.

Two HM militants identified as Irshad Ahmad alias Waleed and Adil Ahmad Khanday were killed in joint operation by 62 Rashtriya Rifles and Special Operations Group of Jammu and Kashmir police at Manzimpora.

Following the death of two local militants, massive protests started at the encounter site while youth and forces engaged in clashes.

Police and forces had to burst teargas shells to disperse pro-freedom demonstrators.

Both the slain militants were laid to rest amid strong pro-freedom and anti-India slogans in their respective villages of Maldair and Barbugh.

Large contingents of people were seen marching towards the native villages of the militants to participate in their last rites.
