Locals of Mochwora village in South Kashmir’s Shopian district accused the army of resorting to highhandedness on Tuesday night, media reports said. The army barged into houses and thrashed inmates many of whom sustained injuries, reports said.
“The army also smashed window panes of houses and cars,” a local said.
Some of the injured have been referred to Srinagar’s SMHS Hospital. Photos injured carrying marks of violence have gone viral on social media.
Army spokesperson Rajesh Kalia denied the allegation against the army and called the ‘baseless.’
“None of our men is involved in any act of vandalism,” he said.
Hurriyat Conference leader Mirwaiz Umar Farooq condemned the alleged use of violence by the army against locals in Shopian. In a tweet, he took a dig at Tuesday’s meeting of the top brass in South Kashmir.
Is this “the more humane face of forces“that Govt have promised people will see at their high level meeting yesterday as reported in media?
