The youth killed in Shopian has been identified as Mohammad Rafiq Rather, son of Ghulam Qadir Rather and a resident of Bonasaidpora.

An eyewitness told Kashmir Life over phone, “Rafiq, a sumo driver, was a part of peaceful protest in Gagran Shopian”. The residents were protesting killings of four ‘innocents’ who were shot dead by CRPF on September 7 near their camp.

The eye witness added, Rafiq was taken to a nearby hospital at Vehil, Shopian where doctors declared him dead.

Today, on Wednesday, curfew was lifted from Shopian after three days after which locals had come out on roads demanding arrest of the CRPF personnel involved in the ‘cold-blooded’ murder of local youth and removal of their camp from Gagran.

Eyewitness further informed that announcements were made on loudspeakers calling people to come off their homes and likely the body might be taken to the Shopian town for last rites.

Pertinently, Rafiq has been shot dead near the same CRPF camp where the other slain youth were killed on Saturday.
